With mixed feelings, I’ll soon be leaving this lovely country. But I’m so grateful for the refuge it has provided my daughter and me.
To all my readers, I hope you also have found comfort somewhere during these months, in friends and family, in books, in art, or — like me — in the beauty that surrounds us.
Next time you hear from me, I’ll be home again. Safe journeys to all of us.
Safe journey home to you both, Lizzie, and safe homecoming too. Thank you for sharing your extended stay in NZ in photos and news, along with some book-related posts, here and elsewhere on social media — always interesting and informative to hear how others are coping in different locations and circumstances.

Thanks, Chris. I know how lucky we’ve been to be “stuck” in this particular paradise. I have at least one more NZ-specific post for Facebook, but I suspect more photos will crop up over the next few months. BTW, your photos have shown another particular paradise, which I’ve appreciated. 😊

Thanks, BIP. We’d started the day before sunrise, so it had been a long one, but we had to stop and admire this sunset. Later, driving through the night sky reserve after sunset, we stopped again to gape at the stars. What a day!

I hope you are home now safe and well! What a week to travel back to the US. It is a challenging time.

Thanks, Lory. We stayed in NZ as long as we could afford, almost 4 weeks longer than absolutely necessary (there were flights out of NZ from early May), to wait for the situation in NYC to ease up. Now we’ve completed 2 weeks of quarantine here, symptom-free, and are moving about more freely. Museums should be opening soon (I hope), so there will be places to visit. For now, parks and long bike rides are it, until it gets too hot even for that.
Hope you’re keeping well. Congrats on completing your certificate!
